DAVID Baines, our newly elected Labour MP, lists the Labour government’s “achievements” over its first hundred days (Opinion, October 17).
He goes on to say that it “has started fixing 14 years of neglect and failure”.
I’m surprised he didn’t include ending the winter fuel payments for pensioners not in receipt of pension credit because, believe it or not, some Labour MPs actually do consider this as an achievement.
It is claimed that one was even seen celebrating as they left the Commons chamber having voted for it.
Mr Baines, of course, also voted for it though it wasn’t in Labour’s manifesto.
According to Labour’s own analysis published in 2017, when there were reports the Conservatives could cut the allowance, close on 4,000 pensioners will probably die as a result of this decision.
