LIKE many people I feel deep anger regarding the new government’s decision to axe the Winter Fuel Payment - a premeditated act, the intention of which was cynically withheld during the election campaign.
There are wide-ranging and serious implications - from fear of using heating to higher rates of illnesses exacerbated by cold and higher numbers of deaths.
So it is not just risible but shameful to treat the public with contempt with claims such as “keeping the WFA would lead to a run on the pound”.
I looked at how MPs voted and was disappointed to see my local MP voted in agreement to remove the WFA.
I and many others will not forget when we next come to vote. (Political) revenge is a dish best served cold - like many homes in St Helens this winter.
