I WALKED through St Mary’s Market in St Helens the other day.
I think I’m correct in thinking this glass-fronted building is set to be bulldozed under the long-term town centre regeneration plans, which would see the market halls relocate.
Looking at that site, it does make me wonder: is that wise?
Could this building not be repurposed or remodelled somehow? I recently went to Ormskirk where a building has been turned into a food and drink market.
Could this be an option for this site?
Or what about making it some kind of youth zone, a meeting point for older people or an indoor sports centre?
Another sizeable building that there’s potential to repurpose if it becomes available is the Wilko’s site.
If not retail, does anyone have any idea what it could be turned into?
