Scouts was founded in 1908 for boys aged 11-18 after Lord Baden-Powell wrote a book called Scouting For Boys. It has come a long way since then and is now for everyone and all children can join from the age of 4. Scouts are about having fun and making new friends. Anyone that goes is welcome and will enjoy it. There is something for everyone and they do sports, craft, teamwork and learn important life skills. There are also opportunities to camp in the wild multiple times per year. Camp is always fun with activities including axe throwing, hiking, archery, canning and much more. There are nightly campfires, where members can chat, sing and even toast marshmallows. Also, camping is anything up to 3 nights out in nature, which not only gives parents a break but also gives young people a break from the pressures of normal life and a break from technology. It’s like one big family and very inclusive.
Scouts help young people develop teamwork and leadership skills. Once a young person turns 14, they can choose to continue in an explorer group or become a young leader, where they will support the adult leaders to run the younger groups. This is an amazing opportunity to improve independence and leadership skills from a young age .
Unfortunately scouts in the UK are not as popular as they used to be and need your help to recruit not only young people but also adults to become leaders. All scouts' leaders are volunteers and do an amazing job of coaching and leading young people to achieve the best they possibly can. So, if you want a new hobby, learn new skills and find the beauty in nature, while helping young people reach their full potential, the scouting life could be for you. To enquire visit your local scout group or check out the scouting website for more information www.scouts.org.uk
Everyone that goes to scouts loves it and never wants to leave, even the adults.
