SUPPORTERS at next month’s Gillette Four Nations double header at Wembley will be asked to nominate which rugby league great should be the subject of a statue outside the stadium.

The RFL has reached an agreement with Wembley for that historic link to be commemorated with a new statue and is giving fans the opportunity to help decide who should join the legendary Bobby Moore, England’s victorious football captain in the 1966 World Cup final, on a plinth outside the stadium.

A bumper crowd is expected at Wembley on Saturday November 5 for the double header, Wales v New Zealand (1pm) and England v Australia (3.30pm) and all supporters are being urged to help identify Rugby League’s iconic Wembley hero or defining moment.

“We feel it is very important that the whole Rugby League family has the chance to help decide how we celebrate the wonderful association between Rugby League and Wembley Stadium, a venue which has given millions of the sport’s supporters so many wonderful memories,” said RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood.

“It will be fascinating to see what ideas the fans come up with, not least because there will be thousands of New Zealanders at Wembley for the double header who I am sure will have something to say about Wembley heroes from Lance Todd through to Jeff Lima, the man of the match in this year’s Carnegie Challenge Cup final.

“We would like to hear from as many people as possible to make sure we make the right decision and I would urge all fans to fill in the official Wembley Statue Nomination Form that will be available on the day.”

Details of how to nominate ideas for the Wembley statue will be included in the official Gillette Four Nations matchday programme which will be on sale inside and outside the stadium on the day of the double header, Saturday November 5.

The 2011 Gillette Four Nations kicks off next Friday at The Halliwell Jones Stadium, Warrington which hosts Australia v New Zealand (8pm) before moving on to Leigh Sports Village the following day, Saturday October 29, for England v Wales (2.30pm).
