LSH 21 Wirral 14.
TWO moments of brilliance from winger Andy Dowell carried LSH to victory over a feisty Wirral outfit in this North One West clash.
In a game played in brilliant October sunshine LSH were making heavy weather of things until Dowell lit up the afternoon with two outstanding tries.
Trailing 11-9 at the hour mark and with a hard fought and even game being played mainly among the forwards, LSH struggled to find any fluency and rhythm.
Enter 25-year-old Dowell, more than ably assisted by full back Neil Hull.
In the 62nd minute Hull, after appearing to misjudge a Wirral clearance kick midway in the LSH half, scooped the ball up and set off on a mazy run across the half way line scything through four defenders before passing to Dowell 20 metres out from the try line.
The left winger took careful aim, built up speed and ignoring the attempts of his opposite number to stop him dived over for a score in the left hand corner.
Ten minutes later a move involving both Cunliffe brothers found Hull speeding into the back line this time locating Dowell 30 metres out on the left touchline.
Cutting inside, Dowell carved his way past three defenders to score near the posts for a try converted by Matt Cunliffe.
LSH travel to Wigton on Saturday, 3pm kick off.
