ST HELENS Town extended their unbeaten run in the league to 13 games with a 3-2 away win at Lymm Rovers.

Rovers had finished above Town last season and seemed to have Town's number at times however the blues got off to the best possible start when Charlie Simpson's industry got the striker his fifth goal in 13 league games this season to put Town one up inside the first five minutes.

But it was not all one way traffic. The impressive Quarmby for Lymm was causing Town some early issues and his cross was finished by Keating on 20 minutes to equalise.

This seemed to shake Town into action and Charlie Leech's tremendous control of Cook's through ball saw him neatly finish to put Town back ahead.

Liam Diggle's return to central midfield saw a powerful performance from the Town captain and his efforts were rewarded on 41 minutes when he rounded the keeper to score from a narrow angle much to the delight of the 30 or so travelling fans in attendance.

It was 3-1 to Town at half time and Town were looking to add more goals in the second half.

The second half would start as a shock though when Lymm hit back once again with a fantastic volley from the edge of the box Harry Quarmby to make it 2-3.

On 65 minutes it was only the early anticipation of goalkeeper Lewis Jenkinson that would prevent Lymm from equalising with his tremendous block and at times it was nervous affair.

Town would have chances too though with the best being a well worked team move.

Will Clapham delivered a cute turn and short cross to the energetic Ryan Cook who cleverly laid the ball back for a Diggle pile-driver that hit the keeper in the chest from 25 yards.

Diggle looked impressively back to his best in both halves and it was only his performance that edged the player of the match award ahead of an outstanding Pacey Garrett who seemed to win every challenge in midfield.

Town remain one point clear of Mersey Valley at the top of the league with two games in hand and return to action next Saturday (7 December) at PSD Rentals Stadium, Ruskin Drive against Newton Le Willows FC with a 3pm kick off.
