SOMETIMES you just know that it is not going to be your day, and that was the case at Wilmslow where Liverpool St Helens suffered a 36-0 defeat.
Saturday morning enforced team changes; conceding a second minute try; seeing your right winger (Jack Gaskell) carried off with a knee injury in the 5th minute (replaced by Bailey Williams leaving an already depleted bench); followed by a Matty wood 40-yard penalty hitting the post five minutes later.
Nevertheless, the Moss Laners set about their work for the next 30 minutes built around strong runs from Connor Thompson, Sean Richardson, and the rest of the pack, all to no avail.
The home side gradually began to boss the territory and went further ahead with a converted try in the 33rd minute 12-0, the score at the half time break.
The second half did not start well with the home side registering two more converted tries in the opening ten minutes 26-0 leaving LSH with the proverbial mountain to climb.
This is the team that pulled 28 points back twice this season against Trafford and Aspull but on this occasion, they couldn’t get out of the foothills.
Wilmslow, much the better team on the day added two more unconverted tries 36-0 for a deserved win.
LSH now have a fortnight to regroup (no game next week) before taking on the unbeaten League Leaders West Park on Saturday, 30 November 2.15pm.
