NEW Saints recruit Tristan Sailor has been issued the number 6 jersey for the 2025 rugby league season.

The former St George-Illawarra and Brisbane Broncos stand off or full back has joined Saints on a two-year contract.

Bringing a skillset of pace, astute passing and a short kicking game, Sailor has arrived looking to make an impact in Super League and pin down a spot.

He takes Jonny Lomax’s number 6 shirt, with the skipper presumably moving back to the number 7 shirt he has held before.

Number 6 has been worn by some legendary players throughout the club’s history – with men such as Austin Rhodes, Peter Harvey, Les Fairclough, Ken Kelly, Frank Myler, Shane Cooper and Chris Arkwright. Although better noted for other roles, Alex Murphy, Wilf Smith and Billy Benyon also wore the number 6 for some big games.

Tommy Martyn wore 6 before reverting to number 20 shirt during the early years of the Super League competition.

In the Super League era, players have been assigned squad numbers for full campaigns, and Saints including Karle Hammond, Leon Pryce, Theo Fages, and current skipper Jonny Lomax have served as the Saints number six.
