LIVERPOOL St Helens beat Broughton Park 36-22 notched up their fourth win in ADM Cheshire and Lancashire Division 1 with a strong and disciplined display and an all-round outstanding performance from Matty Wood.

They controlled the first half with an effective scrum and a functioning line out and although they ended up 17 points in front at half time it really should have been more, squandering three solid chances.

Both sides landed an early penalty in the opening five minutes before LSH made their possession eventually pay on the half hour mark when a rejuvenated Chris Hull finished off a strong drive from a short scrum, converted by Wood.

He then added a penalty soon after.

The lively fly half then made something out of nothing when streaking clear from deep in his own half to run 75 yards to score and then convert.

Wood slotted another penalty after the restart before Scott Davidson was red carded for his part in a midfield fracas.

Broughton Park responded with their first try soon followed by a fine second score from Wood after an excellent break from the irrepressible Matt Cunliffe.

A yellow card reduced the Moss Laners to 13 men and the visitors took full advantage to score their second try.

In a frantic finale and on a day when the three pointers proved crucial, Matty Wood added two more either side of another Park try to finish with a tally of 31 points out of 36 for a deserved win.

LSH have no game next week.
