FIVE games in and Liverpool St Helens produced their best performance so far to return with the full five points to Moss Lane after a 34-26 win at Heaton Moor.

Matty Wood had an outstanding game both in attack and defence but this was most definitely a true team performance.

Playing against a sizeable pack there was an ever willing queue of players taking the ball forward and gaining valuable yards.

Ultimately when chances were created, the backs did the rest.

LSH could not have had a better start.

Their first attack saw hooker Joe Jackson finish off a textbook catch and drive, converted by Wood after three minutes.

With both sides sizing each other up for the next 20 minutes the next score came in unusual circumstances when Liam Forsyth dispossessed one of the opposition players behind their goal line and touched down.

The next five minutes saw LSH go further ahead through two almost identical distance tries from within the LSH half, both down the left wing, the first from winger Jack Gaskell, converted by Wood and the second from Wood.

The home side then went up a gear and after seeing an almost certain try denied by a last ditch tackle from Wood, pulled twelve points back before the break with the score 12-24.

Three minutes into the second half the Stockport outfit reduced the arrears again when, after strong pressure, they were awarded a penalty try.

LSH responded soon after with another fine effort from Wood, converted by him, before electing to kick a penalty to create a 15 point buffer with just over 10 minutes left.

The home side used it to besiege the LSH line, bringing one late try but this was a day when LSH were not to be denied their third win.

This week LSH travel to Didsbury Toc H, 3pm.
