THE penultimate week of the Liverpool Competition saw Rainford climb back up to third place in the Premier League with a 55 run victory over Newton le Willows.
Rainford's Jason Login continued his good form by hitting 84 as the hosts posted 173 all out with Jack Morley (4-34) and Ben Walkden (3-44) the pick of the Newton bowlers. John Dotters (4-43) and Andrew Davies (4-39) ensured the win was Rainford's.
Rainhill's game with Wigan had to be abandoned due to a waterlogged ground after the heavy midweek rain.
St Helens Town's relegation from Division One was confirmed after they lost a low scoring thriller at home to Colwyn Bay. The Welsh side batted first with Matthew Bielby (4-8) and Sibusiso Maseko (3-38) restricting them to 109. Town's reply looked on course but they lost their last five wickets for just 10 runs to complete an agonising four run defeat.
Sutton's promotion chances from Division Two suffered a blow as they lost a top three battle at Caldy. The visitor's Alex Oldfield took 4-17 to help restrict Caldy to 129 all out and the target looked well within reach until Sutton lost their last eight wickets for 22 runs to lose by 16 runs and leave skipper Joseph Noctor's 74 all in vain and Caldy with a 14 point advantage going into the last game of the season.
