HOLDERS Rainford tasted cup heartbreak on Sunday as they lost the Ray Digman Trophy final to Ormskirk.
Andrew Davies (3-30) was the pick of the Rainford bowlers as Ormskirk posted a competitive 192-9 from their 45 overs. Rain interrupted the reply with the target reduced to 150 off 29 overs and it proved too much as they closed on 130-9 to leave Ormskirk still chasing a potential treble.
Division Two Sutton were also in final action after making it to the Ray Tyler Cup showpiece against Highfield who scored 244-6 off their 45 overs. The rain came in the tenth over with Sutton on 42-6 and well behind the DLS rate as Highfield won their second Ray Tyler Cup in the three years.
In the Liverpool Competition Premier League, Rainford's John Dotters took 7-60 as Formby were bowled out for 166 before Paul Farrar (62no) helped seal a six wicket win.
Rainhill beat relegation-threatened Birkenhead Park after 79 for Bilal Khan and 55 for Saeed Ullah allowed them to post 221 all out. Khalid Usman (4-61) and Saeed Ullah (4-60) wrapped up a 26 run win.
Newton le Willows' opener Nathan Hughes hit 56 as his side posted 148 all out which proved more than enough as Southport and Birkdale were dismissed for 79 thanks to Ahmad Safi Abdullah's 6-21.
St Helens Town are in the Division One relegation zone after a seven wicket loss to Spring View.
Sutton are second in Division Two but their promotion charge was held up by a defiant Norley Hall. Batting first, Sutton made 260-6 with half centuries from Jack York (54) and Cronje Van Greunen (50) but the hosts closed on 172-9 with Natalie Brown (5-42) and Jamie Greener (3-29) unable to force the win.
