SAINTS have strengthened their backline further for 2025 with the signing of young wingman Lewis Murphy from NRL outfit Sydney Roosters on a two-year deal.

The 22-year-old speedster becomes Saints’ third recruit ahead of next season, following in the footsteps of Tristan Sailor and Kyle Feldt.

It means that Saints will have potentially have a completely new back three, with an abundance of pace and attacking threat, from next term.

Murphy first caught the eye of Saints supporters following his breakthrough year of 2022, having come through Wakefield Trinity’s youth ranks.

In his debut campaign Murphy scored an impressive 19 tries in 21 match appearances for the Belle Vue outfit.

Four of those came in Trinity’s 34-18 win over a youth-packed Saints side at the Totally Wicked Stadium at the back end of the 2022 campaign.

But Saints supporters’ hopes that the then Trinity wingman would switch to Saints to replace speedster Regan Grace were scuppered when he announced a move to NRL with the Roosters for 2024.

Alas, an ACL injury cut short his 2023 season in Super League before his departure.

Murphy is currently part of the Roosters’ squad, gaining experience down in Australia by playing with the club’s New South Wales Cup side following his rehab work.

Head Coach Paul Wellens welcomed Murphy to the cub and stated: “Lewis is an exciting young talent, coming through at Wakefield Lewis showed what he is capable of and deservedly got an opportunity to join the Roosters.

"I know he is a very hard-working and committed young man and desperate to get back to playing to show what he can do.

“We found out to our cost a couple of seasons ago how good he can be when he scored those four tries against us, and I’m sure he is going to thrive in our environment and will be a player that is going to excite fans.”
