ST HELENS Town's opening home fixture at the PSD Rental Stadium, Ruskin was greeted with sunshine and an attendance of 94 despite kicking off at the same time as Saints' Super league clash with Hull KR on Saturday afternoon.

And the clash with Lymm Rovers had a thrilling ending  with Charlie Simpson scoring on 90 minutes to grab a 2-2 draw.

Despite the great start to the season that has seen Town post three wins and a draw so far, the footballing Saints began sluggishly and were punished on 10 minutes when Harry Quarmby calmly slotted home to put Town's opponents, Lymm Rovers 1-0 up.

Within minutes Town were level though when Dale Whitehead curled a free kick into the top right hand corner of the Lymm goal and Town pushed on to dominate the remainder of the half.

Only Everson's outstanding form in the Lymm goal prevented Charlie Simpson from putting Town 2-1 up on more than one occasion.

As the second half began Town looked to push on for all 3 points against a team that are likely to be promotion contenders but Lymm again hit Town on the break and that man Quarmby had put Lymm 2-1 up against the run of play.

As the half wore on and time began to run out, frustration in the Town ranks could be felt amongst the home fans as Whitehead and Cook both went close to a second equaliser but to no avail.

Coach Paul Piert's men have a steely resolve about them though this year which was typified by player of the match Tom Hunt on his league debut for Town.

Town return to the PSD Rental Stadium at Ruskin Drive next Saturday, 31 August against Sandbach Town with a 3pm kick off.
