A TUMULTUOUS week at Prescot Cables FC has ended with the reappointment of the club's management team just days after they left the non leaguers sparking a mass walk out from players and anger from fans.

The club, who were promoted to the Northern Premier League last season, announced on Monday, July 15 that first team manager Steven Daley and first team assistant manager Peter Cumiskey has stepped down from their roles "with immediate effect".

In a short statement, Cables, said: "Following an evaluation of the club's financial obligations for the upcoming season and our projected outgoings it has become clear that our initial agreed budget is not sustainable. The long term sustainability of the club will always be our first priority."

Daley and Cumiskey's decision prompted an exodus from the club with a number of players, including new signings, leaving.

The news also provoked anger from the club's fanbase and in the following days the club issued another statement condemning the treatment of some staff.

It read: "There has been a great deal of anger in the last 24 hours, particularly on our social media accounts, with personal insults aimed at individual members of the board.

"Please try to remain respectful and refrain from using inflammatory or insulting language.

"The board of directors are local people who have families and in some cases young children.

"Each director is a volunteer who only wants to help the club in whichever way they can. Directors do not take a penny out of the club in wages."

So serious was the alleged abuse that one director, Richard Tigwell, wrote on X that he "feared for his wife and children's safety".

On Wednesday, July 17, Cables confirmed that former player, David Dempsey, had been appointed the club's new full time manager, arriving from North West Counties side Burscough.

But then in a further twist, Cables' chairman, Tony Zeverona resigned with another statement from the club forthcoming which read: "Prescot Cables can confirm that chairman Tony Zeverona has resigned from his position.

"We strongly condemn the personal abuse aimed at Tony over the course of the week. Tony's involvement with PCFC lasts over 25 years in many roles and we thank him for his dedication to the club."

On Friday, July 19, Dempsey announced he too was resigning after just 72 hours as the club's new manager.

In a statement on X, Dempsey, said: "To witness the current situation first hand it is unbelievably hard to watch.

"With the chairman resigning today, 99% of the player group walking away from the club and the change at board level within 48 hours the job has become an impossible one to do."

Dempsey's departure prompted an extraordinary U-turn with club next confirming that both Daley and Cumiskey were set to return.

In a post on X from the club's account on Friday, July 19, Prescot Cables said: "The club is pleased to confirm that Ste Daley has agreed to rejoin Prescot Cables as First Team Manager. Further details will follow in due course."

Daley faces a stiff task - Cables' Northern Premier League campaign begins in just over three weeks as they host Matlock Town on the opening day.
