He also gave a run down on Saints' injury list and the estimated timescales of their returns.

And Wellens also spoke about how external recruitment is being viewed to complement the developing talent at the club.

Here is what he said about injuries.

SAINTS will welcome back Moses Mbye from suspension for Friday night’s Super League clash with Warrington, but the wait goes on for the any returns for a long list of casualties.

Coach Paul Wellens gave a now weekly run down of absentees and their timeframes for a return to action.

Saints are currently missing eight members of their first team squad with injury – including six full internationals.

And they will be keen to keep in contention with the leaders before the cavalry returns to the fold.

Wellens said: “Tommy Makinson is nearing a return, but he will likely be next week or failing that definitely the week after.

“Alex Walmsley is looking like three to four weeks, Sione Mata’utia we are not sure yet and is very similar to Konrad Hurrell in that they both have a bit of a neck issue going on and can’t seem to shake those symptoms.

“The neck is a very sensitive area and we don’t want to take any risks there. They are both in the same boat.

“Joe Batchelor is 3-4, Morgan Knowles is looking at 2-3 so we have a group of players looking to return in a similar timeframes.

“Both Jake Wingfield and Matt Whitley are after them.

“It is a challenging period for us at the moment.

“We have a few players not far away but as it stands now only Moses Mbye returning from suspension.”
