HUDDERSFIELD Giants have stood down head coach Ian Watson with immediate effect.

The Giants suffered a 48-0 thrashing at Warrington on Friday - their seventh defeat in eight Betfred Super League games.

Assistant coach Luke Robinson will take charge ahead of Saturday's match at Leigh.

"Following today's scheduled monthly board meeting the club has stood down head coach Ian Watson with immediate effect," read a club statement.

Huddersfield sit eighth in the Super League table, eight points adrift of the play-off places.

Watson, 47, joined the Giants ahead of the 2021 season and signed a new four-year deal in 2022.

But Huddersfield have largely struggled since reaching the Challenge Cup final and finishing third in the Super League in 2022.

"Luke Robinson will take charge of the team ahead of the upcoming Betfred Super League game at Leigh on the weekend, neither the club nor Ian will make any further comment," the statement added.
