RAINFORD lost their Liverpool Competition Premier League top three clash with Northern in a thriller at Moor Park.
Jason Login struck an unbeaten 83 backed by 56 from William Threlkeld as Rainford posted a challenging total of 215-6. Northern were eight wickets down when skipper James Cole hit a six off the penultimate ball of the innings to seal victory despite John Dotters' 4-88 and Login's 3-71.
Rainhill made quick work of dispatching New Brighton after Khalid Usman (5-11) and Jamie Harrison (3-20) dismissed the Wirral side for just 46 before sealing a nine wicket win.
Newton le Willows were bowled out for 142 at Formby with the hosts cruising to an eight wicket win.
In Division One, St Helens Town remain bottom but they did manage a draw at home to Orrell Red Triangle after the visitors declared on 160-2 before Town closed on 100-5.
Sutton are second in Division Two after a comprehensive victory over Northop Hall. Opener Jack York hit 65 as the hosts declared on 161-5 with Andy Cowley (5-24) and Cronje van Greunen (3-6) skittling the Welsh side for just 42.
