THE sun shone at last on the Liverpool Competition's weekend fixtures with Rainford pulling off a thrilling Premier League win over Wallasey.
Batting first, the visitors were in deep trouble at 56-7 until Harry Meehan (35) and Jack Leckey (17) fought back with a stand of 59 for the eighth wicket to take Wallasey to 118 all out. Liam Gaskell (4-36) and John Dotters (3-17) were the pick of the bowlers and it was Dotters who top scored with 30 as Rainford sealed a two wicket win.
Newton le Willows restricted New Brighton to 176 all out with Ahmad Safi Abdullah taking 3-64 off 25 overs and Jack Morley claiming 3-48. Skipper Chris Chambers (66) and Morley (51no) then steered the hosts to a four wicket win.
Khalid Usman top scored with 52 as Rainhill declared on 185-9 off 56 overs at home to Southport and Birkdale. Usman then took 3-66 but the visitors chased down the target for the loss of five wickets.
In Division One, St Helens Town travelled to Old Xaverians where they were bowled out for 138 before the home side reached the total with four wickets down.
Sutton's Natalie Brown produced one of the performances of the weekend, taking 7-23 as Alder were bowled out for 61. Earlier Joe Smith hit 59 as Sutton posted 212-6.
