SAINTS packman Jake Wingfield suffered a worrying looking injury at Castleford last night in his first game back after trouble with his shoulder, which involved shoulder surgery last term.

Coach Paul Wellens feared the worst and said he was "heart-broken" for the young middle forward.

Wingfield was led off during the first half of Friday night's big win and will now be scanned to assess the full extent.

Wellens said: "It doesn't look good.

"Jake is a player who's had a fair bit of problems with his shoulders and obviously we are going to have to get that scanned and get more information.

"But the early signs aren't good and I am heart-broken for him and all the rest of the playing group are too.

"I know how devastated he is in that dressing room right there right now.

"The one really sour thing to come from the evening tonight was what looks like a serious injury to Jake and I will, as we always do with our players, we'll give him the necessary support that he deserves.

"Hopefully, we can help in whatever way possible.

"Obviously as you can imagine right here, right now we're all just disappointed with the injury."

Wingfield got his opportunity after injuries ruled out Matt Whitley and Morgan Knowles.
