LIVERPOOL St Helens have announced that Andy Northey has decided to step down from his role as Head Coach at the club.

Northey returned to his boyhood rugby union club where he played mini and colts rugby, in 2013, and has been in charge at the Lane for 11 seasons.

During that time his side have won the Lancashire Intermediate KO Cup and achieved a brief promotion to level 6 rugby in 2022/2023.

He has had a significant role in the continued development of the club, both on and off the field, and has had a specific influence in the increased transition of colts to senior rugby.

His direct but affable style made him popular with everyone at Moss Lane and he will be missed.

St Helens Star:

The former St Helens rugby league star and Heineken Cup winner with Northampton, said: “This a great club, my home town club.

"It has been a privilege to spend the last 11 years or so contributing what I can to rugby at the Lane.

"Amateur Rugby at this level demands far more of a Head Coach than 80 minutes rugby and training each week and I have really enjoyed all aspects of the job, particularly working with some great and dedicated volunteers.

"I will miss the lads, they are a great bunch but it is time to go and I wish them well in the future.

LSH Club Chair Tom Jackson said:  “Andy has given the club 11 years of his experience as our Head Coach and has been tireless in his efforts.

"He has done so with great skill. Above all, he has taken the side through some ups and downs with continued enthusiasm and we have been very lucky to have him.

"On behalf of everyone, including our loyal spectators with whom he has had a great relationship, I thank him for his time with us.”

Jackson confirmed that the search for a new Head Coach is underway.

“Andy is a hard man to replace but we are confident that the club is in a position to find a top replacement," he said.
