AFTER three consecutive weeks of weather related postponements Town finally returned to action at Ruskin in a Cheshire league fixture against Sandbach Town Ramblers.
Town started nervously against a team that had won the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
However, in the tenth minute a sublime pass from youngster Rob Marsh released Dale Whitehead who chested the ball down and finished calmly to put Town 1-0 up.
Town dominated possession for the remainder of the first half with the returning Ryan Cook and tireless Tom Jackson threatening to unlock the Sandbach defence.
However, the impressive Cam Birkenhead in goal for Sandbach was proving to be the best keeper Town have faced this season.
Manager Paul Piert made changes at half time with Scott Williams and Pacey Garret coming on in midfield whilst Liam Diggle moved into a more advanced position and this helped Town shift gear.
Garret's constant work rate seemed to unsettle Sandbach and Liam Diggle would soon show his class with a clinical left foot finish on the turn that left Birkenhead stranded.
As the second half threatened to boil over, Town managed the game well with Williamson and Foster controlling the midfield whilst Whitehead in particular showed poise and quality on the ball throughout to take the man of the match award in an important 2-0 win.
