ST HELENS Town managed only a third away win of the season in this gritty game beating Hartford FC 1-0 in a game played in poor conditions at the Cheshire County FA ground in Northwich.
Youngster Kyle Rugg in goal for Town pulled off a tremendous early save to keep Hartford at bay.
It was the home side who at times looked the more dangerous, despite Town dominating possession in the first half.
An outrageous Mike Newton volley and an Ethan Danku effort were Town's best attempts however neither team could break the deadlock and both teams went in goalless at half time.
The second half continued to be a tense affair until Kenny Dixon's through ball put Ethan Danku in the clear on 60 minutes.
Danku's low shot was parried by the Hartford keeper and Tom Jackson slid in to put Town 1-0 up much to the relief of the travelling fans.
Within a few minutes the tireless Liam Diggle would blaze over the bar from 15 yards out, but that was as close as Town came to a second.
A nervy last half hour ensued but Town managed the game well throughout with Dale Whitehead in particular having an impact on possession in a deeper midfield role.
