SEVEN former players from Saints’ glorious past will be signing copies of the Saints Indeed book at the Club’s Superstore on Saturday 16th December from 11-12pm.
All have a memorable record of achievement in the red vee jersey, with 77 years of service overall, a staggering 2,428 appearances, plus 7,746 points between them.
Throw in a shed full of winners’ medals, representative and individual honours and you have a fantastic cross-section of rugby league in the town from the late 1950s to the dawn of Super League.
There are two Club Captains: Kel Coslett and Chris Joynt; Paul Loughlin the record points’ scorer in a match; Les Jones, second only to van Vollenhoven in the try-scoring charts; Neil Holding, the dynamic ‘chip and chase’ scrum-half; George Nicholls, a double recipient of the Lance Todd and Harry Sunderland trophies and local-born centre Brian McGinn, who was in the first team to wear the red vee jersey, beating Wigan 12-6 at Wembley in 1961.
Great matches and great memories will inevitably be rekindled in abundance. A simply unmissable event!
