As Haydock Park host their last flat fixture of the year, we catch-up with general manager Molly Dingwall about the day and everything there is to look forward to over the coming winter months.
I can’t believe that the summer season is now well and truly behind us and we have just one more fixture on the flat before the turnaround begins for the Jumps season.
This Friday’s fixture (October 20) at Haydock Park not only marks the end of an incredible few months of action on the flat but is also special for another reason – because it gives us the chance to showcase some of the wonderful sustainability work going on across The Jockey Club.
Friday’s Go Greener Raceday gives us the opportunity to trial a variety of initiatives with the intention of finding permanent changes to further reduce our impact on the environment.
As part of such we will be introducing new recycling bins and looking at new ways in which to serve food and drink which does not involve the use of plastic.
My personal favourite initiative is the printing of our menus on seed paper, which can be retained by visitors and later planted to produce a beautiful array of wildflowers.
At The Jockey Club, we are committed to this mission and since 2018 have had a number of successes, including sending zero waste to landfill and sourcing 100% of our electricity from green supplies.
After Friday, it’s fair to say that our attention will well and truly turn to everything we have to look forward to over the winter months, starting with the very best of them all, The Betfair Chase.
This special race is the first Grade One Jumps Race of the new season, and one of the biggest dates of the year for Haydock Park.
It’s always a wonderful day which we thoroughly enjoy not only for the top-class quality of the racing, but for the spirit and atmosphere the day brings to the racecourse.
Following The Betfair Chase we race over fences a further three times in December, including on Tommy Whittle Chase Day on December 23.
The day provides the perfect opportunity to get into the festive spirit while also showcasing great racing across the card.
