LIVERPOOL St Helens experienced what can only be described as a disastrous first half against Winnington Park in this Regional 2 North West clash, conceding four tries in the first 20 minutes and then three more before half time.
They ended up going down to a 66-26 defeat.
Six were successfully converted and LSH, completely outplayed, were 47-0 behind.
Those LSH supporters who had crossed the Runcorn Bridge to support their team avidly watched Andy Northey’s body language in the half time huddle and were not disappointed.
Whatever was said certainly had some effect. LSH, by denying Park any running ball and attacking through the pack, scored three tries of their own.
Returning prop Adam Gore crossed from short range, Rob Sexton nipped through a gap to neatly score under the posts and Dan Webster capped an all-round 100 percent effort of a display with the third.
The game within a game for LSH was now another try for a bonus point.
The home side ran in another try before, with time running out, stand-in skipper Sean Richardson produced an amazing 25 yard burst to score the try that gained LSH a hard fought consolation point.
The hosts deservedly had the last say with another score to run out worthy winners.
Next Saturday Vale of Lune visit Moss Lane 3pm KO.
