A CHARITY night in of Alzheimer’s Research UK will be held at Newton Sports club next month after former Warrington, Leigh, Wigan and Great Britain forward Ian Potter received a shock diagnosis earlier this year at the age of 63.
Potter is a former St Helens schoolboys captain, who went on to win honours at Warrington and played a key role Leigh's Championship-winning season in 1982.
Renowned for his tough tackling, St Helens-born Potter joined Wigan in 1984, playing at one of Wembley's most iconic finals in 1985.
He returned for a second spell at Leigh in between 1989-92.
Potter was capped twice by England, eight times for Great Britain and made five Lancashire appearances.
The night in aid of Alzheimer’s Research UK will be held on Saturday, 30 April - 7pm-midnight at Newton Sports Club.
Entrance tickets are £5 per person and that includes DJ and a buffet.
There will be a raffle at £2 a ticket with all prizes being donated by local businesses.
They will be auctioning a signed Wigan RLFC shirt and a Leigh RLFC shirt, two of the teams he played for.
