WEST Park's excellent winning run in 2022 continued despite an injury-riddled and severely disrupted match , one which saw the second half requiring completion with uncontested scrums and the use of two pitches.
Very early injuries in the visitors pack,to both Michael and and then captain Paddy Loughnane were disruptive but initially overcome.
Although the home side's dominance of the scrum gave them superior possession, excellent defense by the visitors only allowed a penalty score to divide the teams for long periods.
However a barn-storming 40-metre run by Fa'asavalu, who gave an eventual man of the match performance throughout, produced a excellent solo try to turn the game in Park's favour.
The conversion by full back Holland provided the lead.
Aldwinians continued to dominate possession and regained the lead with a good try under the posts which was converted to give them a 3pt lead as half time approached.
However a serious serious injury to Park's promising young prop Danny Reece who suffered a badly broken ankle, forced the referee to end the half a few minutes early, and subsequently re start the 2nd half on an adjacent pitch to allow medical support for the injured player.
The disruption of the injuries suffered by the visitors forced the second half of the game to be played with uncontested scrums, which proved decisive enabling Park's backs with ball in hand to dominate in attack Tries followed from winger Houlton and then with a typical run and feint to deceive the defense from stand off Hill, both tries being converted by Holland. Strangely the game then returned to the original pitch, but this made little difference to the flow of the game, a fourth try was scored by Woosey and duly converted by Holland to give a very satisfying score of 28 pts to 10pts.
An interception and length of the field run by the Aldwinians full back gave them a try which was converted to narrow that gap, but the visitors capped off a fine performance in the face of considerable adversity with a penalty converted after a flawless display by full back Holland .
Next week West Park travel to Fleetwood for a fixture re-arranged from earlier in the year
