ON DAY 8 of our Saints Advent series we go back to an eventful and compelling 1992-93 season.
The picture was taken at the start of the year before Chris Joynt signed from Oldham and ahead of Jarrod McCracken's guest spell at Knowsley Road.
It was a tumultuous season - one which included the last ever Lancashire Cup Final, which Saints lost 5-4 to Wigan at a packed Knowsley Road.
McClennan's men avenged that with that magnificent, still talked about 41-6 victory on 27 December - and Saints pushed Wigan all the way.
Alas, the season hinged on Good Friday, with Saints needing a win to overtake the Riversiders - with the 8-8 draw not being good enough.
It effectively meant Saints lost the title on points difference - a day made worse by the career-ending broken leg suffered by Kevin Ward.
They did stop Wigan claiming the clean-sweep, winning the Premiership Trophy 10-4 at Old Trafford to get a reward for a tremendous season.
The squad pictured is, back row: Ward, Loughlin, Veivers, Riley, Nickle, Griffiths.
Middle: Mann, Quirk, Ropati, Harrison, Neill, Hunte, Forber, McClennan (coach).
Front: Mulcrow (kitman), Sullivan, Connolly, O'Donnell, Cooper, Groves, Dwyer, Reid (trainer).
