HAYDOCK took the spoils with a hard fought 24-20 derby victory against Thatto Heath in the NW Mens Premier League.
The Yickers flew out of the blocks with scrum half Andrew Bacon scoring the opening try in the second minute which was converted by Fullback Ste Jones to make it 6 - 0.
Then on four minutes powerful centre Kyle Braithwaite dived over out wide for a great try, again converted to make it 12-0.
Skipper Jordan Gibson was next to cross the Thatto line with a fine solo effort, again the extras were added Ste Jones to put Haydock firmly in control at 18-0.
The Yickers were unlucky not to go further ahead when two chances were bombed when the ball was put down with the line at their mercy.
Thatto then got on the score sheet to make it 18-4 and it stayed that way to the half time break.
Thatto got themselves back in the game with a converted try to make it 18 -10.
But a second try to Jordan Gibson and with Ste Jones 100% with the boot made it 24 - 10.
But credit to Thatto who never lay down got themselves right back in it 2 more tries with one converted to make it 24 - 20.
But Haydock held out to take the points, and in all round great team performance Stand Off Jordan Gibson that took the Cable Taxis Man of the Match Award, closely followed by Connor Smith, Mike Sexton, Adam Brown and Scott Johnson.
