IF ST HELENS Council agree with the new Runcorn Bridge being built, have they given any thought about the tolls on both bridges the cars use? They should be able to use the old bridge toll free.
Ever since the old bridge was built out of the tax from road users, it has been free to use and it should remain so.
I am not against a new bridge being built, and if people want to use it, that is their choice so they should pay the toll.
What I object to is not giving the motorist the right to use a bridge they have already paid for; it is just another tax for the motorist.
The people that have decided to build this bridge have decided to take away our right to choose; which bridge to use.
If as they say, the tolls are going to be the same as the Mersey Tunnel, then I predict the tolls will double in five years.
The council should think again about supporting the bridge tolls.
