YES, everyone was right. It is one of the jewels in our local heritage crown.
It is The Mansion House, a listed building in Victoria Park.
It was built in the 1840s by John Ansdell, and occupied by him and his family in 1851. It was bought by St Helens Corporation in 1886 and later became a museum, giving a home to the borough’s collection (and please direct any questions and comments on that topic not to me but to your local councillor).
It is now an active Age Concern centre.
