A SERIES of road closures will be in place from tonight at a section of the St Helens Linkway as work to install a footbridge, linking the new Saints stadium with the town centre, gathers pace.
St Helens Council has announced that from 9pm Wednesday, October 19 until 6am on Monday, November 7 the north carriageway of Linkway East (for traffic travelling east bound) will be completely closed to all traffic.
Meanwhile, Linkway East will be closed in both directions for all traffic between a series of dates over the next month: From 9 pm on Friday, October 21 until 6am on Monday, October 24.
From 9pm on Friday, October 28 until 6am on Monday, October 31.
From 9pm on Wednesday, November 2 until 6am on Monday, November 7.
From 9pm on Friday, November 11 until 6am on Monday, November 14.
From 9pm on Friday, November 18 until 6am on Monday, November 21.
Councillor Alison Bacon, cabinet member for environmental protection, said: “Temporary diversion routes will be signposted and every effort will be made to minimise congestion.
“I hope that motorists will bear with us whilst this landmark bridge is constructed. This eye catching bridge will be a fitting gateway, linking the stadium to the town centre.”
