A TEENAGE cyclist, who remains in critical condition after a road collision on the East Lancs Road, has been named as Martin Lloyd.

The 19-year-old from St Helens broke his femur and fractured his skull and ribs in the incident involving a bicycle and a blue Fiat Punto.

Martin was taken to hospital by air ambulance. The collision happened near to the junction of the East Lancs and Carr Mill Road at around 10.50am on Sunday (September 26).

Eyewitnesses described seeing a black bicycle lying at the roadside and a Punto stopped near the Liverpool-bound central reservation.

A spokesperson from North West Ambulance said the victim was transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital within ten minutes.

Police said the driver of the Punto stopped at the scene and was uninjured. He is assisting officers with their enquiries.

Long tailbacks built up as drivers were forced to divert from the Manchester bound lanes, which were closed for around five hours.
