MORE than 60 students from various areas of study at St Helens College competed in a 5-a-side football tournament in memory of the late Jim Coffey, a much-liked and respected member of staff.
Winners of the 4th annual Jim Coffey Memorial Trophy were a team of Jaguar engineering apprentices from Waterside who triumphed 8-6 over a 'Dad's Army' side of college staff-in a gripping final at the Technology Campus, watched by Jim's widow Sheila.
The competition is now firmly established as an annual event and has proved to be a fitting memorial to Jim, himself a keen 5-a-side player.
The event was organised and refereed by engineering lecturer, Dave Pye, ably supported by Shaun Fogerty from sports studies.
