ST Helens travelled to Wigan on Saturday and were asked to bat first.
Former St Helens player Graham Bolton removed Horabin, Lowe and Moncrieffe in four balls before retiring hurt with a pulled hamstring.
Ian Lawless continued his excellent season with 56, Darren Tyms top scored with 74 and Sanjay Pandey plundered four sixes and five fours in an entertaining knock of 62 to take Saints for tea at 230 for 9 dec.
Wigan's reply started well with captain S.D. Casham 78, M. Rowe 16 and Parlane 36 taking the score to 110 for 1 at the start of the last 20.
Criss Metcalfe and Elliot Supria bowled well in the absence of Gary Sheppard but it was Sanjay Pandey (4-74) and Adam Friar (3-45) who took the wickets.
Two run outs should have been three when the umpire's finger stayed down with the batsman well out of his crease - but that's cricket. The game ended in pouring rain with Wigan settling for 178-9.
Gary Sheppard's weekend away resulted in him breaking his ankle playing football and his season is unfortunately over.
The second team put Sefton in to bat - a decision they may have regretted when the visitors declared at 202-5.
The wickets fell to Gareth Griffiths (2-66) with Robbie Supria, Paul Booth and Barry Fee taking one each.
Despite having what looked a good batting side St Helens could only manage 79 all out, with the best contributions coming from John Hill 14, Robbie Supria 12, Paul Booth 11 and Jeff Gore 11.
Worsley are the visitors to Windleshaw Road next Saturday.
