THE Newton AA Summer League match on Wednesday was fished on the upper pound on pegs 33 to 70.

Coaching sessions are now under way, any junior or senior member who would like to take advantage of this opportunity should go along to the Sankey Canal Upper pound swing bridge on Saturday afternoons at 2pm and meet Mark Van Den Hoek.
These sessions are designed to help the novice or anglers who may have a specific problem with their tackle or a certain method. This is free of charge just go along.
The upper pound of the Sankey canal is fishing well for roach, perch, rudd, bream, tench and ide to 2lbs, maggot, caster, worm, bread, corn and meat are all producing fish.
The lower pound is also fishing well for silver fish along with tench, small mirror and common carp, bream, perch and chub, again maggot, caster, worm, corn, meat, bread and hemp are all taking good fish.

The members only section at Penkford Bridge proved a worthwhile visit for 15-year-old Brad Sturges.
He landed a 10lb ghost koi on floating bread crust. And Danny Tickle had a 10lb plus common on the same method.
These two fish were personal bests from this water for both boys.
The roach fishing is very good here with 20 pounds of roach sometimes taking less than a couple of hours to maggot or caster on the drop.
Our thanks go to Harry's Tackle, of Old Rd, Ashton-in-Makerfield for supplying the bait for lads from Penkford School last Monday when they fished the upper pound on a coaching session.
The Vulcan Reservoir is still living up to its reputation despite the low water level.

Also the large carp are showing on the surface, there are also some very big perch in this water and worth going for.
