STAR readers came up trumps for soccer player David Booth who had simply been getting 'too big for his boots'!
For after David... who is 6ft tall and takes size 15 shoes at the tender age of 12... featured on our front page in a desperate plea for help to find soccer boots that fitted him, we got dozens of calls from helpful readers.
And now thanks to one of them, David can take up the offer of trials for Wigan Athletic.
The fanatical Liverpool fan, spotted by scouts from the Championship side, plays full-back for Bold Miners under 13s but for some time now has been squeezing his 'plates' into size 14s and was desperate for a bigger size.
Frustrated
His family had searched web sites and sports stores for a pair of size 15s, but were unsuccessful.
David said: "We were all getting frustrated because we couldn't find any that fit - no matter how hard we looked. I knew that if I didn't find any I would have had to stop playing.
"I'm just so pleased to have got some that fit me."
After reading his story sympathetic townsfolk sent in suggestions and ideas, providing a list of shops and websites, which stock larger size shoes and boots.
But it was thirteen-year-old Star reader Ryan Martindale who suggested Bradford-based sports company sportsshoes.com, who teamed up with The Star to offer David a brand new pair of Nike's.
Despite sparking the interest of national media and an appeal on Granada Reports, David's mum Marie said that the Star was the only one that came up trumps.
Victoria Bannister from sportsshoes.com said reassuringly that David does not need to worry until he gets to a size 18.
