RE your article 'Wally Weighs in to Battle Bulldozer Plans', Star August 5.
We the residents of Chapel Street and Argyle Street wish to thank the leader of the local Conservative Party, Wally Ashcroft plus Councillors Nancy Ashcroft and Ken Roughley for their support over the last months by trying to negotiate with Chief Officers of the Council over the proposal to demolish properties in Chapel Street and Argyle Street.
It is encouraging to know that there are some Councillors who care enough about the people of St Helens to come and view for themselves the properties that are supposedly in 'Poor Condition'.
How the Chief Officers within the council can recommend a proposal to demolish these properties and cause so much stress and heartache to the residents on the opinion of three Council Officers who did a survey over three years ago is unbelievable.
I suggest the persons who have the power to rubber stamp this proposal should look for a more amicable and less drastic solution to improve the area.
