AS a holiday traveller who brings home a 3,200 cigarette allowance from Spain, I was shocked to read in your July 22 edition 2004, of the warning that Terry Wynn our Euro MP was giving that Spanish Authorities will only allow 800 cigarettes per person to be taken out of the country, while anything above this will be confiscated, with a chance of a heavy fine, which is in contradiction to our HM Customs guidelines of a 3,200 acceptance.

The result of the shock occurred because he warned us of these very same possibilities 12 months ago. Surely one whole year is sufficient time to clarify, and normalize this ambiguous situation. What steps if any have been taken to protect our people against acts, which can only be described as highway robbery.

Have the Spanish authorities been consulted on this matter? Has there been a question in the House of Commons regarding these matters?

Are we at the Heart of Europe, which is a common boast? Terry Wynn as a Euro MP should by now be armed with some answers, and not warnings, to fulfil his obligations to people who vote him to pursue with some vigour their interests and problems.
