MY name is Chris Darlington. I'm a local historian researcher and playwright. I'm writing a play about the 1966 World Cup. This will be my third sporting play. I am looking for people's personal memories of this great time and what it has meant to them and their relatives.
I was only ten years old and had chickenpox and watched it on a small black and white rented TV. I was so proud of what our lads achieved. Could you please put out an appeal on my behalf for information.
People will have different memories, they might even have gone to the games or met some of the England players or foreign stars. I'm trying to write and research the play and have it produced ready for the 40th anniversary in two years time. Or maybe it will be shown as part of the City of Liverpool's Capital of Culture if someone would like to sponsor me.
Last year I finished writing a play about the 1939 FA Cup third round game between Runcorn FC and Preston North End (Bill Shankly played), which has been a huge success being produced four times by The Centre Eight Drama group, the last one being in our local school St Augustines in Castlefields. I'm also still looking for people's national service memories for another play I'm researching.
If any of your readers have any information can they please contact me.
