St Helens Town 1 Formby 1
TOWN drew their first home game of the season on Tuesday night.
Although they dominated the match for the best part of 90 minutes, they fell behind five minutes from time when Adam Spellman's lofted header bobbled out of Town keeper Paul Dahl's hands and under the crossbar.
But Town salvaged a point when substitute Lee Pegram grabbed the late equaliser.
In the dying minutes Town had another few chances to grab all three points, but they were foiled by some last gasp saves and tackles from the visitors.
Manager Joe Paladino said: "It was like the Alamo out there.
"Formby were camped in their own half for virtually the full game.
"We created plenty of opportunities, but just lacked that killer punch to see them off.
"In the end I am gutted to have only come away with a draw, because we should be sitting at the top there with six points in the bag.
"That said, it would have been an absolute travesty had they won with a goal like that.
"Dahl is a top keeper and I am certain he will win more games for us than he will lose this year.
"Once again our fitness told - and they were very much gone after an hour, but we were still strong."
