AFTER a late start due to a wet outfield Darren Tyms won the toss for St Helens CC and took first use of the wicket against Formby.
Ian Lawless scored a rare 8 off one ball when the fielder, in attempting to prevent an all-run four, only succeeded in giving away four overthrows.
Tyms and Woods were joint top scorers with 22 each, with Ian Greener only just behind with 21 batting at number 10. The innings closed at 138.
With only two first-team bowlers available, Saints relied heavily on Sanjay Pandey and he did not disappoint.
Pandey bowled throughout the innings to take 6-46 and restrict Formby to 115-7 taking his season's total to 67 with five games remaining.
Bank Holiday weekend will see Saints playing Orrell away on Saturday and St Helens Recs at home on Monday.
The 2nd team lost to Hightown away and the thirds were held to a draw by Haydock.
