Frickley Athletic 1 Prescot Cables 1

PRESCOT fielded five new signings for their first-ever UniBond League Premier Division game and came away with a well-deserved draw from a scrappy affair at Frickley.

In a game of few chances, newcomer Karl Connolly nearly put Prescot ahead in the 25th minute when he left Frickley keeper Mark Shackleton flat-footed with a chip that came back off the bar.

Shackleton then made a point-blank save from another Prescot newcomer, Sam McNutt, before Frickley went ahead against the run of play on 37 minutes when Wayne Benn caught the Prescot defence napping to curl a quickly-taken free-kick into the net.

Prescot were level within three minutes though when Connolly scored from the penalty spot after Lee Cooper was pulled back as he broke clear from his marker.

Highlight of an evenly-contested but unexciting second half was an overhead kick by another debutant, Adam Flynn, that Shackleton turned over the bar.

Prescot finished the game with 10 men when Connolly was dismissed for a second bookable offence five minutes from time.

Prescot are at home to Matlock Town on Saturday and make the short trip to Burscough on Bank Holiday Monday. Both games are 3pm kick-offs.
