FLYWEIGHT Eric Marsden was among the finest pound-for-pound boxers in the business. He was also modest, helpful, quietly spoken and, in fact, a genuine gentleman.
So I'm pleased to learn that boxing fan Jimmy Rogers, from Golborne, is keen to map the career of the St Helens fighter who fought all the top-liners of his day but never quite achieved the paid profession's glittering titles.
Eric, who died in fairly recent years, had an educated style and the distinction of being the tallest flyweight of his era.
Jimmy, from Elliott Avenue, Golborne, explains: "I am seeking newspaper articles, programmes, photographs, boxing bills and the like. All items loaned to me will be returned after copying".
ANYONE able to help Jimmy can contact him on 01942 742821.
