FAMILIES whose homes are threatened with demolition as part of a regeneration strategy are set to discover next week whether St Helens Council will push ahead with the plans.
The council's Executive will meet at St Helens town hall on Wednesday, September 15, to discuss proposals that could lead to 48 occupied terraces on Chapel Street and Argyle Street, Cowley Hill, being knocked down.
Elderly homeowners have raised vociferous opposition to the proposals and representatives of their action group, Charge, are expected to attend the meeting.
If councillors decide go ahead with the regeneration plan a lengthy, complicated process is likely to unfold which could lead to a public inquiry and the council seeking a compulsory purchase order on the homes.
