JUST the week before her beloved husband of 72-years died, Doris McCaffrey had welcomed a charming new addition to the family.
Her great great granddaughter Cadie-Rianne Leyland, who was born in July, is the fifth generation in a long line of McCaffrey 'girls'.Heading up the Newton-le-Willows clan is 90-year-old Doris, then comes Regina Aspinall, 63, Collette Pye, 41, Lisa Smith, 20 and now baby Cadie-Rianne.
Collette said that despite Doris's grief, she was overjoyed with the new family member: "But obviously she was devastated when her husband Charlie died. And sadly he didn't even get the chance to see Cadie because he was in hospital." She added that the birth of Cadie-Rianne has united the family around Doris, but couldn't offer any real explanation as to why the women in the family were now beginning to outnumber the men.
"I think they must be putting something in the water around here," she suggested.
