FRANKIE Howerd, Max Miller and Arthur Askey are just some of the comedy greats to take us not just for a walk, but a laugh down Memory Lane, on the new double CD release 'Just For Laughs'.

Impossible to name every artist on this 50 strong collection of nostalgic musical humour, revisiting those far off days when comedy was actually funny rather than smutty or worse. Reading the track listings alone conjures up so many memories and comes up with a few surprises.

Recalling 'What's my line' on television with Eamonn Andrews, vainly trying to keep the lid on the rude, bad tempered Gilbert Harding, the pairing with cigar-smoking Gingfold defies belief. Yet here it is and it sold in its time.

History is really what this release is all about, where the spirit of the age comes through. The manic Spike Jones alongside the relaxed wit of Frank Crumit as he paraded the tales of impossibly/possibly named heroes.

And a chance to revel in the gentle humour of the early career of Sir Bernard Miles, who was later to become a respected straight actor.

More cheek came from Lancashire's own George Formby. Compare him with Stanley Holloway who brought a tear to the eye followed by a good laugh, yet the public loved them both.

'Just For Laughs' will bring a smile to your face and is sure to have you singing along to the old classics. Copies are available from the mail order line by telephoning 08700 711611.
