A 29-YEAR-OLD man died when the car he was driving smashed into a gatepost during the early hours of Saturday morning.
Andrew Critchley, of Rodney Street, Newtown, was killed when his red Rover Metro veered off Washway Lane, Haresfinch, and hit the post nearby BOC Gases at 3.50am on September 11. Two teenage girls, who were both passengers in the car, were also injured and fire crews had to cut free the causalities.
A police spokeswoman: "A 14-year-old girl had suffered multiple injuries but they were not thought to be life threatening. The other passenger, a 15-year-old girl, suffered minor head injuries. Both were taken to Whiston Hospital."
Police, meanwhile, have appealed for witnesses to the fatal accident. The Metro was travelling towards Haresfinch before it crashed. Witnesses are asked to contact police on 0151 777 5730.
